A young carefree couple of young lovers travel the world and make videos (not homemade) about abandoned haunted houses for their blog. In hopes of catching enormous popularity and gaining as many views as possible, they decide to explore an old house underwater at the bottom of a lake that was flooded years ago...
A French spooky horror film that combines several fears pressuring the viewer at the same time: diving to the depths, claustrophobia, wandering through dark, musty rooms, and ghosts.
The theme of ghosts in houses has been played around since the dawn of cinema, and over such a long period of time there have been no where else for ghosts: asylums, mental institutions, houses on hills, hotels and skyscrapers, and even in outer space. Here, however, the director offers a rather hackneyed theme from a different angle, putting the building under water and sending the main characters there.
It turns out to be a fascinating spectacle, and even if some of the screemers are expected, it still builds up tension and a sense of impending disaster. Watching the characters with scuba diving bags, that is still nerve-racking, as if in a dream, when you run as hard as you can, but you stand still. The frightening atmosphere is supported by the literate background in the form of a shabby house, interior items drifting through the rooms and ominous sound accompaniment.
Moral: today's bloggers are out of their depth - ready to get into any hellhole for a couple of extra likes or comments under the post.
The bottom line is the original location for the haunted house, offering an underwater nightmare ride. A good choice for an upcoming Halloween movie.
