The tale is about the skillful Gemma, a genius roboticist, who unexpectedly gets custody of her orphaned niece. In order to bring the little booger out of depression and sadness for lost parents, Gemma decides to give her Megan - an experimental android doll, a kind of Terminator in Annabelle's body, and at the same time to follow the development of their relationship. But the events get unpredictable development when the robot too literally understands its mission to protect the child...
Films about artificial intelligence (AI) filmed already quite a large number, and such that raised very interesting and hot topics for discussion. "Megan" does not try to get to the hidden depths or come up with something original, the tape is simple and accessible to the viewer the idea of the danger of self-developing androids, jeopardizing our future, being a nice addition. But it doesn't seem secondary, as the director has taken the offshoot and turned his attention to raising a child through modern technology.
And there's a lot to reflect on. Living in a progressive time, it is impossible to shield a child from technology, and even three-year-old children are eager to understand gadgets. The picture raises a hot topic: whether AI can completely replace parents for children. How strong can be the attachment to the mechanical stuffed animal and what consequences it entails. Eternally busy adults with their work, chores, each other, are happy to "neutralize" an obsessive child by handing him a phone or tablet. But no matter how far AI developments go, it is impossible to replace the warmth, love and attention of parents.
We have to admit that the movie is more interesting for its idea and the message to think about, because the plot is simple, we know in advance its development and assume what will result in "flirting" with the robot. Nevertheless, it is a fascinating spectacle, in particular thanks to the Megan doll herself: her behavior, dancing, singing, display of sentiments and dark side.
As a result, in a global sense, the film brings nothing new to the topic of AI, but continues to explore the tangled paths of evil technologies, while pleasing us with visuals.
