Election 1999, director Alexander Payne masterfully tells a story about school politics and human frailties. Tracy Flick (Reese Witherspoon) is an ambitious high school senior who aspires to become student council president, stopping at nothing for her goal. Jim McAllister (Matthew Broderick), a respected teacher, decides to interfere in the election and endorses another candidate, Paul Metzler (Chris Klein), with unexpected consequences. The film mixes humor and drama, exploring themes of power, envy and morality, and shows how far people can go in the pursuit of success.
