Focus 4K 2015

Glenn Ficarra and John Requa, the authors of the romcom 'This Stupid Love', in 2014 produced a strong and good crime movie with a melodramatic driving idea. That case when I saw this movie on release, years later forgot, but yesterday I reviewed it and was satisfied.

Yes, on the agenda we have the author's statement on the theme of love, which is more precious and stronger than any money and forms of its manifestation. I like the way Glenn and John reason in their movie: mixing '21' and 'Ocean's Friends', they balance on the edge of drama, thriller and comedy, while not forgetting to speak to the audience in an understandable language: everything is chewed up, everything is shown in close-up and without flashing montage, everything is shot on location and in the light of day. The first act of the picture is a masterpiece of genre cinema. Yes, in the middle of the second a little bit of heat is reduced, and the plot goes in another direction, but if you 'chew off' the first half of the movie and make a short meter, it would be 10/10. But since in fact we have a full meter for 'hour forty', we'll settle for what we have. I liked the script: rhythmically written, great dialogues, events change each other quickly and unplugged. The plot is engaging and exciting: I can't say that this is a purely male or female movie. You can safely include on viewing with your other half. Both of you will get high.

The acting is excellent: Smith and Robbie look great in the frame. You can feel the chemistry between them, and that's a good thing. The camerawork is fine: it's nice to see the movie shot in Open Matte. Good editing that doesn't strain when watching. The movie is 'sound' and well put together in post-production in terms of lip-sync.

'Focus' is one where I wanted to see the second half of the movie not what it ended up being, but that's subjective and doesn't affect the overall outcome after seeing it. An interesting, exciting and versatile movie that shouldn't disappoint you while watching it.
