Elvira: Mistress of the Dark' is a cult movie in its own way. To date, it is a classic of black comedy. Even though the movie failed at the box office and, to put it mildly, did not meet expectations, it still found its fans. And now, twenty years after the release of 'Elvira: Mistress of the Dark', it is safe to say that the movie has become a gem of the genre, and any attempts to repeat it are doomed to failure.
The very idea of the adventures of a lecherous-looking but kind-hearted witch already arouses a lively and genuine interest, as I think nothing like this has ever been filmed before. Cassandra Peterson began using the image of Elvira in the early eighties, that is, long before the shooting of the movie, so 'live ' in the role was not necessary. Needless to say, Cassandra took to participate in the film, where she is assigned the main role (and in her favorite image) is extremely responsible.
I was very pleased that the authors of the picture practically managed to avoid vulgar jokes, which, as one might have thought at first, should fill this movie. All the characters are portrayed organically, there is no unnecessary contrivedness and naïveté. The music is not annoying. In short, it turned out to be a good comedy, not to say that with mind-blowing or masterpiece, but relaxed and easy humor, leaving after viewing only warm emotions and memories.
