In my humble opinion, “A Simple Plan” is one of Sam Raimi's best works. Some see in this movie a story of endless stupidity, others - a story of hopelessness and fatal coincidences, but in both cases the story is masterfully told, realistic, and the movie is almost a benchmark of the genre.
Bill Paxton and Bridget Fonda play quite well here, and Billy Bob Thornton in general shines with another facet of his versatile acting talent.
The main characters appear to the viewer as something like children who have done something wrong and are now trying to hide their mischief. And the viewer, immersed in the calm, oppressive atmosphere of “A Simple Plan”, feels this sense of deception and secrecy. The viewer hid the amount of money he had found in the same way, and his eyes lit up in the same way at the sight of the American dream - four million dollars worth of banknotes.
