Strange Darling 4K 2023

Finally, finally, in 2024, a movie hit me so hard that I just can't find censorious words to describe my emotions after watching this treasure! I just want to hug everyone - Willa Fitzgerald, Kyle Gallner, director JT Mollner, Giovanni Ribisi, and say thank you, thank you so much for not losing your enthusiasm and belief that it is still possible to surprise in modern cinematography. The year isn't over yet, but the fact that Strange Beloved is the craziest and most unpredictable thing I've seen in 2024 is certain.

Screw the description. Fuck the trailers. Don't read anything, don't watch anything, all the plot details, who is who when why, it will all spoil the first impression (which, as everyone knows - the most correct one). The only fact that doesn't hurt is that the movie is divided into 6 chapters, and they are not lined up in a straight sequence. “Strange Beloved” is a case where the editing can be called skillful manipulation. And one more fact, which definitely does not interfere, on the contrary, will set the mood - this is the story of a serial killer.

That's it. I promise you'll fall in love. And not just like that, just one time. No. Love really hurts. So does a good movie. And Strangelove is a really good movie. And it's not about the director's writing, which is completely unknown to me (who is J.T. Mollner?), nor is it about a big idea that could turn the movie industry upside down but, as everyone knows, only makes it worse. Strangelove has no such pathos at all. The thing that makes it great is its directness, its desire to hedonistically get so high both from the process of making the movie and from watching it.

The acting is superb. I don't know these people, but I feel bad for all of them and hate all of them fiercely - well, why do they act like this and cause such suffering to each other... In general, everything is just like in life. Another distinctive feature is the involvement in the story of “Strange Lover”. Since the story is presented in a non-linear way, some chapters are puzzling - what is this strange game between the girl and the Demon, and when will it end? Will the end of the game coincide with the end of the movie?

I would also like to mention the music. It's old-school. Melancholy. But not retro at all. It seems to me that better than any dialogs it was able to create chemistry between the characters, and then - to spread it beyond the screen - to the viewer himself. It is this involvement in the viewing process that makes “Strange Lover” an unforgettable experience that you want to relive again.
