Nothing can surprise us now, but I think that thirty years ago, when this movie was made, it would have shocked and frightened many people. A modern viewer is not likely to be frightened by the on-screen image of a maniac in black glasses and a hat, with a scarf tied around his face and a knife in his hand. But if you remember the typical horror movies of the eighties, this movie will seem scary for its time. What makes this movie especially worthwhile is that it comes from Hong Kong. I don't know about you, but personally I was interested to see what was filmed at that time in this country. And I can say that this movie is not inferior in quality to typical western horror movies of the eighties. So I'm surprised that this movie is not well known.
As we learn from the synopsis, the movie begins with a certain necrophiliac committing a crime, probably not his first. Suspicion falls, not without reason, on a man who has been cohabiting with his dead wife for some time. The details of this “love” are almost never shown to us, but there is something that can make you lose your appetite for a long time. The thing is that for scenes with corpses the creators of the movie obviously did not spare worms. They show them to us with such relish that it even becomes scary. It seems to me that the creators of 'Corpse Mania' went to an extreme, which is the opposite of what the creators of 'Necromantic' went to, in which there were no worms on the corpses at all. And here there are so many of them that one feels sorry for this necrophile. It even seems as if he bred these worms on purpose. But, of course, it's all to shock the audience.
The movie is interesting as a detective. Though you can guess a lot of things in advance, still the intrigue is kept until the very end, so everything is not so simple as it seems. That's why fans of intricate detectives will probably like this movie. And if you like Hong Kong cinematography, it's a must-see. However, I don't recommend eating while watching this movie (or rather, a couple of scenes from it).
