A wonderful sci-fi action movie from the mid-90s, a must-see for genre connoisseurs, fans of Denzel Washington and Russell Crowe. The latter can't be left out especially in connection with the role of Sid, a unique creation of programmers and, at the same time, the embodiment of antagonism and chaos. When Sid breaks free and learns all the charms of our world, he does terrible things, because the thirst for destruction is embedded in him from the beginning. But he is so damn charming in Crowe's performance! All these colorful suits, manners of stilyaga ... Yes one his passage down the street to 'Stain' Alive' Bee Jees what is worth! Travolta, my ass. In general, Russell and in this movie managed to outplay his star partner (imho in 'His Man', 'Proof of Life' and 'Train to Yuma' he did the same).
As for the picture as a whole, it made me feel nostalgic for the times when the term 'virtual reality' meant a world completely far away from us, akin to other galaxies, programming was considered the occupation of a select handful of scientists, and the highest achievement of special effects in movies was the 'liquid terminator'. This very, childishly naive, 'pre-truth' view of computerization literally permeates the entire film. And it is all the more interesting to revisit it now.
