The daughter of a retiring general about to enter politics is murdered. In order to prevent the case from being turned over to the FBI and causing a stir that could jeopardize the general's political career, local detective Sergeant Frank White (John Travolta) must get to the bottom of the case and find the killer in just thirty-six hours.
Sgt. White will take up the case thoroughly, but someone from the military will interfere with him in every possible way. However, the hero Travolta will go to the end, and the investigation will lead him to interesting results and an unexpected denouement.
Expensive and high-quality thriller on the military theme, another movie about the lawlessness going on in the U.S. army, and about the difficult female share in its ranks. “The General's Daughter” is primarily a conversational movie, so do not look at the huge budget and expect the movie shooting or any military action.
This is a good detective thriller with inimitable John Travolta in the lead role. There is no point in proving anything to him here. In those years, being at the peak of popularity, Travolta plays at his high level, working off twenty-million dollar fees with more than enough. His character reminded him of his own hero from Clayton Base, released four years later. Also a military detective leading an investigation.
For all the minor scriptural flaws Simon West's picture is a movie tense enough and very interesting.
