When someone in camping conditions can build a roof over his head from what mother nature will throw up, catch a bird, a fish or an animal for dinner, build a fire and shelter from the rain, and do all this without screaming, moaning, unnecessary nerves, but on the contrary with interest in the matter - it always evokes positive emotions.
Roughly the same feelings this movie evokes in me:
A free field for creativity filled to the brim with action scenes, innovatively shot, skillfully edited, and all this on a modest European budget. It is the best example of a quality spectacle that is not expensive. In this case, the cheapness of the movie is even redeeming. As if it could have been filmed in your countryside.
The work of the composer is not left out either. Powerful orchestral parts by Francesco De Massi give the movie a grandeur that would not have been there without such beautiful music.
Of the cast, I only know Frank Wolfe, who was a regular in Spaghetti Westerns. I can say that each of the actors did a good job on camera creating a memorable vivid image from their role. Chuck Connors seems to be a pretty well known Hollywood actor... haven't seen any movies with him, but he looked brilliant in this one.
A lot of people probably remember childhood war games. While watching it, I remembered that wonderful time when it didn't matter what was burning, falling, breaking, exploding and you didn't get caught for it. It's enough to watch the trailer of the movie to make sure - it's basically the same thing.
According to the plot, a few comrades in arms must sneak into the gold mine of the Northmen (Civil War time), kill all the living and take out the crates with gold from there. The soldiers of the squad act in an organized and well-coordinated manner. Where it is necessary to sneak, where it is necessary to cover from bullets, where it is necessary to make a noise with dynamite, and where it is necessary to show themselves firmly and skillfully in muzzling. You don't have to be bored while watching, you just don't think about time.
The characters are all like a selection: Gringo-brain, mestizo, Mexican, Indian knife thrower, a young gunslinger eager for adventure, and a healthy athlete-mountain. Also in their team from time to time appears one con man, by whom this “operation s” and was organized.
- What a team!
Really, so lightly I thought about them only the first part of the movie. I won't reveal any further, but spaghetti westerns are known for the great contradiction between 'good' and 'bad'. “There is no 'good' in the movie!
