I can't even believe the new movie from the quality prolific Neon Studios. Why it's definitely worth seeing at the movies.
A synthesis of Russian and American culture. American director Sean Baker obviously worked well with a team of Russian screenwriters: the picture is full of Russian mat, aphorisms and subtleties of mentality. In addition, did not scrimp on business trips to Mark Eidelstein, Yuri Borisov, Alexei Serebryakov and Daria Ekamasova. Without the stereotypical look did not do without, but in “Anora” in this more charm than vulgarity.
Expression in everything. Shooting, editing, sound design, acting - Baker twists the saturation to the maximum and splashes on the viewer a stream of colors, eroticism, screaming, youthful rebellion and emotions.
The general theme of the movie is money, sex and love. What a funny absurd weave the canvas of the narrative, and how tragic and heartbreaking the final picture is shown. Baker mocks lust and power: love in his picture is not a tool for forging happiness, but a commodity for which everyone pays for what they have. The uncomplicated beginning of the story rumbles to a crashing climax, when dabbling with feelings leads not only to financial and social problems, but also to the destruction of finer matter.
Rumored to be one of the top candidates for Best Picture at the upcoming Oscars. From me - definitely stronger than last year's Cannes “Anatomy of a Fall,” but also not as timely for the top prize.
Either way, worthy of viewing. For those willing to endure the harshness of a wicked tale of romance in the age of capitalism.
