To be honest, the following words are painful to say, but this film is one of the worst in the filmography of Terence Hill and Bud Spencer. It is not surprising that after Miami Supercops, they did not appear together for nine long years.
It should be added that they decided to part ways not so much because of the failure of this film, but because by that time they had already starred in 17 films, so it was becoming increasingly difficult to find original ideas for each new film. Here, there were only clichés left.
Spencer, who is a decade older than Hill, has slowly but surely aged. He can no longer run, and he has great difficulty moving around. For the first time in my memory, he does not actively participate in fights and, accordingly, does not show off his signature punch from above down on the head.
Talking about the plot is even more depressing than watching the film. It's full of clichés, from the millions stolen several years ago to the final showdown with the main villain. There are no interesting moments in the film, and even Hill's traditional jibes at Spencer seem rather lackluster.
The scenes of both heroes' dates with girls are frankly superfluous. These moments play no role whatsoever and add no spice. They only slow down the action. And the increased seriousness with which Hill arrests criminals only adds to the dreariness. Remember how the guys acted in “The Crime Fighters,” constantly forgetting police protocol and acting informally? That was a whole different level.
In my opinion, the actors' collaboration with Bruno Corbucci turned out to be extremely unsuccessful for the famous Italian duo. And yet Hill and Spencer starred in films based on his scripts more than once. Earlier there was the film “Heads or Tails.” And individually, Hill in The Shortest Day and Virtual Weapon; Spencer in Banana Joe, Cats and Dogs, and Aladdin.
Overall, it turned out to be extremely weak, and as a big fan of Hill and Spencer, I am sad to realize this. But the guys will redeem themselves. Hill will launch the series Lucky Luke, and later he and Spencer will put a beautiful end to their joint adventures with Trouble Makers.
