You know, after watching The Royal Tenenbaums and The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou, I felt that a director had emerged who makes the most interesting and unusual films. (Of course, this is just my personal opinion.) And then I watched The Darjeeling Limited, and I finally decided for myself that Anderson doesn't just make very interesting films, he is definitely one of my favorite directors.
Each of his films is a big event for me, and I have watched each of his films more than once in one way or another. Damn, I love what this man does! It's really interesting, unusual, and completely different from everyone else. Of course, I repeat, this is only my opinion, which is a reflection of my taste. After watching his films, I get the impression that he makes them just for me. You know, there are some films that many people don't understand, but for some reason you really like them. In such situations, I think the worst thing is to say that your favorite films are “bad” just because everyone else says so.
I don't care, so I say that The Darjeeling Limited is a good movie. It is decorated with bright colors, it is very atmospheric, and very specific. You need to watch it, listen to it, understand it. You need to feel it. It's not evening entertainment, and it's not a popcorn blockbuster. It's a personal movie.
Almost the entire film takes place on a train, where the brothers perform various rituals in order to find unity, but as is often the case, unity is achieved when they have to face difficulties. The dialogues, movements, glances, pauses, facial expressions, sadness, laughter, joy, colors, and much more, accompanied by a wonderful soundtrack, make you completely immerse yourself in this journey and experience, together with the characters, their unusual path to each other.
I liked this desperate journey. It seemed familiar to me.
