Perhaps one of the best films based on Lovecraft (high-quality films based on his works, despite numerous adaptations, can unfortunately be counted on the fingers of one hand), is imbued with the spirit and atmosphere of the author's works, and is itself the most accurate (unlike the others) adaptation (of the story “The Life of Charles Dexter Ward”).
Although the film is far from new, it is still a delight to watch (of course, some of the visual effects are outdated, but there are not many of them and they do not particularly spoil the picture). The plot is very engaging, the atmosphere is amazing, and the scenes of walking through the dark labyrinths under the mad scientist's house are worth seeing. In general, I strongly recommend this film to all fans of Lovecraft and simply high-quality, truly frightening (not with an abundance of blood and gore, but with atmosphere) horror films.
