What a film, what a gorgeous trio--Farrell, Gleeson and Fiennes!
Imho, this movie absorbed everything that a really good picture can. I'm just tired of watching one-dimensional movies with flat humor and shooters masquerading as thrillers or action movies.
Two hitmen, Ken and Raymond, are in hiding in Bruges, Belgium, after failing a case. Throughout the film, viewers watch the action unfold in a small but very beautiful town.
Colin Farrell plays Raymond, the rookie hitman who botched the latest murder. I'm not afraid to say it's Colin's best role so far. So much emotion, he didn't even have to say anything, just keep quiet, it was all written on his face. Whatever feelings overwhelmed his character, the audience felt the same, felt it together with him, cried together... And you don't see that very often. The end result is a great, charismatic character.
Brendan Gleeson plays Ken, a professional hitman who finds Raymond and offers him a 'job'. Of all the films with his participation, about the characters Gleason formed only a pleasant impression, and so it was this time. It is simply impossible not to like him. His passion for art, architecture, beauty and politeness make him a good and sensitive character, but when it comes to work, he's a real pro, without pity or regret.
Ralph Fiennes plays Harry Waters, the boss who gives Ken and Raymond their orders. He lives by the rules, everything is brutal and principled. In this movie, Ralph was just on point. All the time when he started talking (an incredible vocabulary of foul language), I just couldn't resist laughing. Despite the fact that his character appeared near the end of the movie, he instantly grabbed my attention from the moment he arrived in Bruges and didn't let go until the very end.
I've seen this movie three times now, and will buy it as soon as it hits the shelves in our video store. As a true movie buff, I recommend seeing this movie to anyone and everyone (who is 18, for we had an age restriction of 18 for the screening in England). I can almost promise you that you will not be disappointed by this movie. So everyone watch it! And if you watch this movie and don't laugh once, then I don't even know what else could make you laugh. Even though it's a sad movie, the audience laughed until they cried and gave a standing ovation at the end, so conclusions!
