The actors' performances are magnificent. All of them. The adults work with the utmost dedication, regardless of the scale of their roles. And the children. It's incredible! A dozen and a half unique characters, different, vivid, expressive. Alive.
However, they are all overshadowed by the performance of a young man with the telling name Jean-Baptiste Maunier. There is no doubt that his parents deliberately chose this name for their son because of its similarity to the surname Molière (Maunier – Molière). Fortunately, in this case, the principle of “as you name the boat, so it will sail” proved to be a winning one.
The boy is a prodigy. Not only does he give an enchanting performance, but he also sings! And how he sings! He has a beautiful voice. His performance is of the highest international standard. In short, the boy has good prospects for a successful career in the arts.
Despite its depth and seriousness, the film is lively and interesting thanks to its clever script and skillful direction. The script has a complex structure, so that the depth of some of the early scenes can only be fully appreciated in the film's finale. The director's precise work has resulted in a successful film!
