In world cinema, there are sometimes projects that can be described as “so bad it's good,” but not this time. Critics have literally destroyed this new attempt to revive the “I Know What You Did Last Summer” franchise, leaving nothing alive. I rarely agree with them and don't pay much attention to their conclusions, but today I am in complete solidarity with the critics. The film is so bad that it's hard to even imagine.

Even the first film, back in 1997, was only a hit because of the popularity of teen slasher films after the resounding success of Scream. Then the franchise quickly died. There were attempts to make a series, but they were also unsuccessful. And, of course, after the revival of Scream, the studio wanted to ride the wave of hype and get back into the trends, but it failed miserably. Of course, thanks to the small budget, the poor box office receipts won't hit the studio's pocket too hard, but still, seeing this piece of trash, I really want to throw a big rock at the creators. It takes some effort to make something this bad. But what's even more surprising is that the actors from the original franchise agreed to participate in this, although who can blame them—everyone wants to eat.

Of course, it's silly to expect a slasher movie to have a coherent plot. The whole point here is to figure out who is hiding behind the mask of the maniac, and the process of exterminating young offspring can also play an important role. But even with that, the creators failed. One of the problems is the restrictive framework of the plot, which the authors have forced themselves into. The story begins again on the road, although there is nothing to prevent the story from being moved to any other location, replacing the car accident with a fire in a building or a shipwreck. This does not change the essence, but it will look new visually. As a result, even at the level of the plot setup, the story radiates a moldy sense of déjà vu. The villain in a cloak and with a hook may be a trademark of the franchise, but the murders themselves are not particularly original, so there is no hint of freshness in the reboot. I could say that all the characters in the film are cardboard cutouts, but in fact they are terribly fake, faceless, and empty. And the acting is downright embarrassing. But the final nail in the coffin of the reboot is the ending, which can rightly be considered the dumbest script decision of the year. Funny, when the killer first appeared, I randomly guessed one option, and it turned out to be correct. It took me one second to figure out who the killer was.
