I watched this film thanks to the trashy advertisement in the opening credits of a similar film, Queen of the Barbarians, which also starred Lana Clarkson. Inspired by the trailers, which Robert Rodriguez made his famous parodies of, as well as the prospect of seeing Clarkson's beautiful body, I frantically began searching for the film and unexpectedly discovered this tetralogy.
The main character, a moderately muscular man in his prime, suddenly decides to help the aging king, who has lost power in his kingdom due to an evil sorcerer of middle age who unsuccessfully experimented with a chemical perm. The sorcerer, in order to end his days as quickly as possible, organizes a tournament of the strongest warriors, which attracts participants from all over the world, including Deathstalker.
I think it is fair to evaluate this film exclusively within the limits of its genre - fantasy action with elements of eroticism, I think it can be called that. Therefore, I perceived the film as another trashy fantasy, which was worth it for the magnificent views and scenery, as well as the overall atmosphere of that fictional world, which, oddly enough, the filmmakers managed to convey.
As for the characters, it seems that in the first part, the filmmakers were searching for the basis or image of the main character, only finding it in the second part. Rick Hill embodied the traits of a barbarian, brute strength and imperturbability, although the title Deathstalker suggests that the main character should have embodied agility and healthy adventurism on screen. Lana Clarkson looked excellent in the role of the main character's assistant; this actress, like Brigitte Nielsen, has an unparalleled ability to wear fur bikinis and swing a long sword.
The film is enjoyable to watch in male company, with all the whistles and cheers that are inherent in such an activity, which will be so abundant that, according to popular belief, at the end of the film, all those who watched it will be doomed to eternal poverty. There is a lot of eroticism in the film, especially in combination with violence. After all, in the era of barbarians, the place of a weak woman was determined by the whim of the strongest man nearby.
