With this film, Richard Franklin confirms his high professional level as a follower of Hitchcock. In principle, it is a simple linear story about a student who gets a job with a professor who conducts experiments on monkeys. One day, the student has to stay alone with the monkeys. Perhaps the monkeys represent a hidden threat.
One of the best actresses of the 90s, Elizabeth Shue, does a great job in her leading role, and Terence Stamp perfectly complements the duo with his infernal nature. But the director's greatest success is the creation of an excellent duo between the monkey Link and Elizabeth Shue's character. The animal is very convincing, and at times it even seems that we are watching a talented actor with fantastic makeup (such as Anthony Hopkins).
By the way, the film gives some very interesting tips on how to communicate with monkeys.
