Sgt. Kabukiman N.Y.P.D. 4K 1990

Why do I like this movie? First, it's a Troma film. Second, it's a classic Troma film, and classic Troma films are worth their weight in gold. Third, the founding fathers themselves, old man Kaufman and his buddy (try to find me) Herz, worked on this film. Fourth, it's a damn funny movie, no matter what anyone says. Fifth, it's 100% cult.

If you don't know the directors, if you don't know the studio, then Sgt. Kabukiman N.Y.P.D. won't be your cup of tea (well, most likely). In other words, this is a film for its own kind. As I always say, it's for those who are in the know. Why did Kaufman and Michael delve into Eastern themes? An American cop turns into the superhero Kabuki (sometimes also into a clown, but that's another story, ha ha). Looking through their filmography, you can see that Sgt. Kabukiman N.Y.P.D. came out after the second and third Toxic movies.

Recall the plot of the second film in particular. Toxic fought the most powerful evil corporation (by the way, the head of this corporation can be found in Sgt. Kabukiman N.Y.P.D., a reporter in a Japanese theater), but something else is interesting here. Toxic swam to Japan! The film features a huge number of various Japanese elements, and he even fought fish mutants.

Herz and Kaufman simply couldn't let go of all this oriental flavor. They needed another film, they needed another hero. That's how Sgt. Kabukiman N.Y.P.D. came about. Yes, they churned out films by the dozen (year after year), but at the same time they managed to make several entertaining films in a row. Of course, Sgt. Kabukiman N.Y.P.D. is a derivative product, no one will argue with that. Toxic Avenger is better!

But Mr. Kabuki Man has a place. Call it nonsense or kitsch, I don't care. I enjoyed it. Here, children are killed in the second minute, here a woman can be thrown out of a window onto the asphalt. The legendary flying machine? Of course, around the 55th minute of the film. Another legend — a crowd of people making faces at the camera? Of course, guys, it's all here (22nd minute).

And Kabuki's abilities are beyond words. He sings arias and laughs at dead people. He can fly like Superman and vomit like KabukiMan. Where have you ever seen villains tied up with Japanese noodles? I can't list all the toxic madness here, because every two minutes there's some kind of funny heresy happening. Sgt. Kabukiman N.Y.P.D. is truly a jaw-dropping piece of trash, in the best sense of the word.

Troma fans, don't pass this one by! “What are you doing?” asks the girl. “Trying to help you,” replies KabukiMan. “Someone helped me like that once, and I had to have an abortion!” Ah-ha-ha, a classic for all time.
