The plot (which, incidentally, is quite dramatic). The local simpleton, Babb, often played with a little girl named Marylee, which annoyed the village men (especially the postman, Otis). One day, Marylee was attacked by a dog, which bit her. Babb brought the bloodied Marylee home. The postman hunted Babba down and shot the poor guy. The court acquitted him, but after a while, Otis's friends began to die one after another...
It's kind of a shame that such a wonderful old horror movie is overlooked. I was a little confused by the TV prefix. I've watched a huge number of bad TV horror movies, but Dark Night of the Scare stands out from the rest. It's a high-quality production by director Frank De Felitta (known for the film Scissors with Sharon Stone).
The film keeps you hooked until the very end credits. An interesting point is that many of the murders remain off-screen. In other words, the director focuses on the atmosphere. He deliberately avoids gory scenes (and this is in the era of Jason Voorhees; Dark Night of the Scarecrow was released in 1981). De Felitta hints at this: one of the villains is thrown into a shredder, but we only hear his screams.
Horror is full of different themes (subgenres), one of which is scarecrow horror. The theme is not the most popular, but sometimes horror filmmakers revisit it. From memory, there's Jeff Barr's Scarecrow Night, Brett Simmons' The Husk, The Messengers 2 with Norman Reedus, etc. I also told you about the Scarecrow trilogy from Asylum Studios (although those went in the direction of worthless trash).
Dark Night of the Scarecrow is the best representative of scarecrow horror, hand on heart. And it's well acted. Babbu played our favorite Giggling Doctor (actor Larry Drake), but I would still like to highlight Charles Durning (you will hate his vile Otis with all your heart).
