Ned Rasin, a simple Florida lawyer, never imagined he would meet the love of his life. But he did, and that woman turned out to be the charming and sexy Metty Walker. There’s just one catch, though: Metty is married, and her husband is clearly standing in the way of the lovers. Of course, they could get a divorce, but then Mattie would be left penniless. What’s the obvious solution in this situation? Of course—kill the husband and live happily ever after, indulging in the pleasures of love without fear. But it turns out not to be that simple; it seems the femme fatale is playing her game just as she should. And the call of the flesh, and the heat of the body, only clouds the poor lawyer’s mind…
It seems the viewer has seen something like this before. And indeed, Lawrence Kazdan’s neo-noir is almost a carbon copy of the famous Wilder film *Double Indemnity*, so the viewer knows some of the twists ahead of time. Still, as expected, most viewers will fall into the trap, and the final twist will come as a surprise to them. Plus, it’s worth noting that Kazdan fully exploits something that, due to moral standards, couldn’t be shown on the big screen back in the days of *Double Indemnity*—and the viewer gets not only a gripping noir plot but also a decent erotic drama where “body heat” isn’t just a pretty title on the poster.
The film marked Kathleen Turner’s debut, and it must be said, a very impressive one at that. She not only acts well but also uses her sexuality to such an extent that practically any man in Hirt’s shoes would have lost his head and started doing foolish things he would later regret.
