The new movie about the world's most famous vampire turns out to be pretty standard.
The movie doesn't have a lot of stars. The plot is quite straightforward. The creators of the movie took as a basis a short chapter from Stoker's novel about Dracula on a ship sailing from Romania to London, satisfying his hunger with sailors, adding new characters and story lines. Expanded the plot, basically.
Apparently, the creators decided to screen this particular chapter, since it was practically never shown in detail in any screen adaptation. Unless - in the first 'Nosferatu'. Besides, this chapter is well suited for a 'chamber' horror.
Without 'agenda' also did not do without - there is a black character in the movie, which is maximally positive. Without any flaws at all. In fact, he is the local Van Helsing, who is engaged in, among other things, blood transfusion for one of Dracula's victims. Only at first he does not believe in the supernatural, relying only on science.
Dracula himself looks impressive. But the main problem is that he is rarely shown, and even then - in semi-darkness. The image here is obviously taken from Nosferatu. Here he is just a bloodthirsty beast without any human features, which brings us back to the primitive image of the vampire, so to speak.
There are also a couple of scary moments, but the main element of fear is extremely formulaic - scimitars. There are some atmospheric moments as well.
In summary, the movie is clearly disposable. Recommended only to ardent fans of Dracula.
