Much has already been said about the genius and cult status of this film, its atmosphere, its genre shifts, and so on. But after watching it, I was left with a strange feeling: what, exactly, is the point of such a drastic genre shift?
After reading about the movie, I was immediately eager to watch it, but as it turned out, this two-hour spectacle isn’t exactly brimming with action. In my opinion, the plot is banal, and, to be honest, that’s exactly the ending I expected.
So where’s the genius? In the mysterious bag and the disfigured man eating—pardon me—vomit? In the legless, mad piano-playing teacher? In the tongue lying on the floor? Everyone, of course, has their own tastes and their own ideas about cinema, but to say after watching it, “Yes, I liked it!”—I just can’t bring myself to say it!
Yes, perhaps this is the truth of life, and this is reality—harsh in places—but why is there no explanation for the girl’s behavior? Perverted murders for the sake of perverted murders? Blood for blood’s sake?
