An intimate, minimalist, and simple horror film—yet at the same time very dark and atmospheric—with otherworldly themes of demons and spirits. The tension builds gradually—from rustling sounds and shadows to hysterical psychosis—culminating in an open ending that is oppressive in its fatalism. The success of this atmosphere relies heavily on sound. For the most part, this is a film driven by sound and dialogue. Horror special effects appear only in the finale.
Plot. A young woman lives with her ailing mother, who is in a coma. At night, she hosts an audio podcast with a guy from another country about paranormal phenomena. Someone sends them audio recordings chronicling events happening to a young couple. From these recordings, they can hear strange and frightening supernatural events gradually unfolding. The young woman is initially skeptical, but as she delves deeper into the details of what’s happening, she herself begins to feel anxious and notice strange occurrences in her own home.
A good example of a relatively low-budget, successful indie project. With a budget of $500,000, the film has already grossed over $18 million. Despite a slight dip in pace leading up to the finale, it turned out well. I recommend it to fans of indie horror.
