Cobra's Space Adventures belong to a time that is now commonly referred to as the good old days. The Oscar-winning events of “a galaxy far, far away” finally put the then-fledgling genre on its feet and marked the beginning of a universal science fiction boom, both in America and beyond. In Japan, for example, majestic spaceships and their brave pilots found refuge in the then-unknown genre of anime.
In the early stages, the Japanese actively sought out Americans, who often provided their screenwriters and offered all kinds of support in exchange for the services of Japanese artists.
The American contribution to Cobra is obvious to the naked eye, as the main character is a hypertrophied image of one of the most colorful characters in the fantasy universe - Han Solo. An unflappable space pirate with high physical abilities and combat training. A first-class pilot, whose mere mention is enough to cause respectful whispers behind his back and, at the same time, make people feel unsafe. On top of all that, Cobra, who has the highest possible bounty on his head, is a lover of beautiful women and a sly guy who doesn't shy away from cigars and booze. But his main trump card is the psychic gun in place of his left hand.
Who else but this guy could you ask for help?
It's not hard to guess that this help will turn into shootouts and chases, space travel and alien landscapes, as well as the evil lord Necron with his army and insane plans. All this is done in an old-fashioned style, with a certain charm of its own, typical of that time. It's impossible to forget the truly magnificent soundtrack, performed at a very high level — from futuristic techno to insinuating melodies using classical instruments.
In the end, Cobra must stop Necron and help fulfill his beloved's wish — ahem, save her home planet.
“Ahem” because at the end, the plot contradicts itself. But that's a minor detail. Besides, in Japanese, the word “save” can have different meanings. Overall, I was left with very positive emotions after watching it.
Recommended for those who want to see the prototypes of future outstanding personalities - Spike Sniguel and Veshura Uragan. For everyone else - as desired.
