“Scary Movie” is the first film in a whole series of parodies. It tells the story of Sidney, a young, modest girl. The movie seems brilliant at first, but after watching it a hundred more times, you realize it’s about nothing—but that doesn’t matter. The main thing is that while watching, you get immense pleasure from the actors’ great performances, a decent plot (based on the horror film *Scream*), and, of course, the jokes and zingers. Vulgarity, dark humor (but what would it be without it?), and sometimes even sheer stupidity often make their way onto the screen.
It always makes you smile when yet another victim acts unnaturally, not the way they usually do in typical movies. One minute a girl will grab a banana when there are two knives, a grenade, and a gun lying right next to her; the next, she’ll run in the direction where the sign says “You’ll Die”… There are plenty of moments like that. But the “highlight” of the whole movie is “Little” and Ray, played by the Wayans brothers. Their lines had me clutching my stomach, and their antics had me rolling on the floor laughing. To anyone who hasn’t seen it yet, I recommend rushing to the nearest video store and buying this parody, which pokes fun at almost every blockbuster of that era (the film was made in 2000). That’s why I love this movie.
