Many films have already been made about the war, but most of them tell us about the participants in the conflict themselves, about their fates and experiences. But not in this movie. Yes, although the focus of the entire film was on the Joker, but it only served as a tool to tell us about the history of the Vietnam War, about what the newly minted Marines go through and that not everyone withstands such tests. In this regard, the film is brilliant.
At first, it is difficult to understand at all what the film is and what genre it belongs to. There are many funny insults, comical situations, from which you do not understand how to perceive this film (laugh or be horrified). But closer to the middle of the film, you realize that the director only reflects the reality, which, as you know, is comic and dramatic.
In the part that tells about the war, there are also a lot of great characters and moments that cause only delight (the part with a Vietnamese sniper is worth it). The war is perfectly shown, the attitude of the soldiers to the war (the washed-out heads that they are knights who came to Vietnam to sow democracy and freedom, and the dirty savages do not understand anything), the work of the military media is also perfectly demonstrated.
This is not all that I would like to mention in this film. Painfully great movie.
