Recently, not many militants can please me. The main thing is not big budgets and a sea of explosions, but suspense, tension and the ability to sustain the story in the same dramatic and stylistic colors from the beginning to the end. Who would have thought that I could find what I wanted in the "Power of the Elements", which crawled out like a devil from a snuffbox. But the film turned out really worthy of attention.
The plot got off to a hurricane in Puerto Rico. The authorities are evacuating residents, it is impossible to stay in places, because the elements are comparing everything in its path to the ground. But at this very time, a gang of criminals with machine guns at the ready break into the house, from where the elderly cop Ray refuses to move out. And if you add a couple of swashbuckling cops to it, the bandits may face a big surprise. In their particular case, unhappy.
One of the reasons to watch the movie is Mel Gibson. I do not argue that there were more significant films in his career, but I am already pleased with the fact that "Mad Mel" continues to shoot in all directions without fear of going ahead. In Force of the Elements, Gibson plays a senior citizen who is seriously ill, but he will not give up a good mess. Well, we will accordingly have something to see.
Almost all the action takes place in one house. But since it is huge, there will be no problems with dynamics, staging of battle scenes and shelter. The plot does not sag and rigidly drives to its climax. They even brought a bit of drama here, especially in the relationship between Ray and his daughter, so you can't say straightforwardly that the movie is passing and will be forgotten as soon as it ends.
It is clear that the "Force of the Elements" has a small budget, but it was spent as intended. The actors clearly agreed to lower their usual fee, just to play together in one promising film. It turned out to be a strong show, and this is the main thing.
My result: "The Power of the Elements" brings back to us a slightly shabby, unshaven, but all the same charming Mel Gibson, who will easily give odds to the young. In general, the film turned out to be decent, which made me happy.
