Working in this film is one of His best roles. And I am truly glad that I was able to watch 'Serpico' and once again see the Actor in action. Unfortunately, the film is not very well known among us, but, in my opinion, it is worth the time spent looking for it.
What is this crime drama like and who can I recommend it to? For me personally, the film turned out to be quite original. Maybe it's because I'm barely familiar with 1970s Hollywood production, maybe it's Sidney Lumet's masterful production. A viscous, not very dynamic story of an unsuccessful struggle with the rotten system of a New York police officer named Frank Serpico.
An idealist, constantly confronted with corruption in all its forms, Serpico cannot turn a blind eye to the lawlessness in the ranks of his colleagues, whose official duty is to uphold this very law. His desperate struggle does not lead to anything good: his beloved women leave him, his life is constantly in danger. But that's his nature. The nature of an honest cop.
I can recommend the film (without fail) to the fans of the Actor. If you love His play, but still haven't watched Serpico, then hurry up to eliminate this annoying oversight.
The name of the Actor is Al Pacino. And he just reigns on the screen. Each shot with his participation is a holiday for pachinophiles. The role was played excellently and deserves all the awards and nominations received.
I remember and more than once caused a smile on various clothes Frank, in which he worked undercover. I was touched by Frank's emphatically gentle treatment of animals: his tame mouse, 'trained to find heroin', a pet parrot, a big hairy dog. Apparently our hero was guided by the famous saying "The more I get to know people, the more I love dogs."
I also drew attention to the emphasized small growth of the hero compared to other characters. Maybe this is by accident (after all, Al Pacino is very short), or maybe with this technique the director was trying to emphasize Frank's fearlessness (in other films with Pacino, I somehow did not notice the difference in height at all).
Here are the main feelings I got from watching Serpico:
1) Permanent enjoyment of Al Pacino's acting.
2) A bitter feeling of hopelessness from universal corruption.
