I find it difficult to name the genre of this film, but not because the picture was shot so badly ... On the contrary, this is an amazing film, absolutely free from the clichés of all genres of cinema. This is an incomparable mixture of a wide variety of genres, and not just a mixture where everything was thrown, mixed and did not get a single 'pie' - this is a complete product!
I can't remember a single film with which this film could be compared and compared. The simplest example is that all the actions of the film take place during the day, even horror films (just light horror films, not horrors) with scenes of being eaten by monsters from the dungeon, well, where else have you seen this?
The film is light, but looks in one breath, a great script, diluted with humor in the right proportions. The play of the two main characters is great, especially Kevin Bacon playing the role of Val.
The country-style soundtrack adds only positive ratings to the film. All this - creates a unique atmosphere throughout the film. Despite the fact that the film was shot in 89-90, even now it is pleasant to watch it. Now such films, alas, are not being shot, which is a pity - because the directorial approach found is unique in its own way, it is a nugget that claims to be the 'most unique mixture of genres'. An incomparable movie!
