The film, filmed in the wuxia genre, accordingly, tells about the most skillful fighters - masters of the fist and sword, who, thanks to long training, talent and secret knowledge, developed their skills and physical capabilities to an outrageous level. In general, the levitation abilities of the heroes may seem excessive, even taking into account the genre, but the battles are staged very well: they are dynamic, entertaining and technically interesting.
Although, in fact, there are a lot of battles in the film, but due to the contrasting more viscous and not too dynamic manner of narration, one gets the impression that this is still not so much an action movie as a dramatic work. And here I must say: I don't really like the basis of the plot; I cannot say that the plot of the story is close and interesting to me.
For my taste, the film is more attractive in the details and moments that accompany and frame the main storyline. This is, first of all, a lot of cultural references and the fullness of the material, which allows you to imbue with the feeling of old China. This is what makes the film so beautiful.
I remember my impressions: when at the very beginning of the 2000s I saw this film on TV, for me, as a young man keen on traditional wushu, it became a successful and pleasant opportunity to plunge into the enchanting world of ancient China.
Well, and besides the fact that I always liked it, unlike some other heroic kung fu films, this is a movie, albeit about great masters, but at the same time, it's still about ordinary people, with understandable feelings and doubts. So, I remember the phrase of one of the characters: "When it comes to emotions, even great heroes become fools." And this makes an ambiguous story for me understandable, and generally adds sentimentality to it.
Summing up, I will note that the main thing in this picture, in addition to memorable battles, is an easy-fantasy atmosphere and Chinese aesthetics. I can recommend the film to those who, like me, are not indifferent to the world of Chinese martial arts.
