I watched it for the first time in 2018. Gradually, film after film, I get acquainted with the heritage of mankind in terms of the cinema of the twentieth century. In recent years, there is not much to watch in cinemas, so attention is shifting from what is now to what was. And it was then wow.
Everything about this film is great, so I'll start with the script. He's here. Yes, you can imagine, once a script was written for the filming of a film. It turns out that here each character is a part of the story, inevitably woven into it. There is nothing superfluous here, there is no fan service, here all the stories are part of a common plot. And such that pull out one and the plot will fall apart. Here are some unexpected twists that surprise and feed your mind. Then you sit and think, but how did it happen, then you add up all the terms and rejoice: 'wow, it turned out cool.'
The story begins with the fact that petty swindlers steal from a random passer-by, and then it turns out that they threw a large gangster on the grandmother. However, such an uncomplicated beginning through certain rehearsals leads to a complex swindling scheme, difficult to execute and requiring remarkable skill from the heroes. And despite the two-hour duration, the viewing time flies completely unnoticed. The film has just begun, but it has already ended. Damn, how quickly and pleasantly the time flew by!
The film is filled with unexpected twists that are fired from Chekhov's guns, and are not far-fetched inventions of the authors' sick fantasy. When watching, you enjoy the details, while continuously following the general plot, the play of the main actors, and interesting dialogues.
After such films, sometimes you don't even want to return to modern times, where there are almost no adequate scriptwriters left, and from year to year they shove a stamped conveyor belt from Mickey Mouse into our mouths without a hint of common sense and at least some kind of meaningfulness.
