I remember the excitement I felt when I first watched the first Shrek. And when Puss in Boots appeared in the second part, I thought I would remember those sparkling eyes forever. The character had long been prophesied for a stand-alone cartoon, and here it was. Was it worth it?
The cartoon is very upbeat, the characters are constantly fighting, running somewhere, dancing... In addition, we are shown not just Cat's life before Shrek, but also his childhood and how he became who he is. The characters are interesting, charismatic, but somehow they don't seem as deep as they did in the cartoon about the green giant. Although the creators tried to show the characters from different angles, you can clearly see the formulaic way in which every other cartoon is created nowadays.
The plot itself is banal and predictable. Of course, it is quite acceptable for children's cartoons, but the concept of changing well-known fairy tales in previous parts was good because the plots of the first two parts of Shrek had rather unexpected moments. Here, however, everything is sad.
The humor is also peculiar. It would seem that the cartoon is for kids, but the funniest moments were those where the humor is for the older generations. And I judge not by my own views, but by the reactions of the children who were sitting next to me in the audience.
