My first review on the site. It's been a while since I watched it, but I still wanted to share my thoughts about the cartoon here.
Many viewers/critics/bloggers have negatively evaluated the picture, saying that it is the most ordinary story. But that's not what I saw... For me, it's a really classy picture that discusses a lot of adult themes. The theme of separating from your parents, being able to stand up for yourself and saying no if it's what's best for you. The theme of parents not connecting with their kids, not being interested in what they dream of, what they want for themselves. The theme of parents pushing children away and not accepting them. The topic of migration and how difficult it is for them. The theme of racial slurs.
Plus there's a very well-described main character here, who didn't just abruptly want to make beauty out of glass for no reason, but has been drawn to it since she was a child. Remember how she herself wanted to make lollipops for the kids as a child. She didn't realize at the time that she had a talent for that kind of thing. Also very cool is Wade, who shows us all how real it is to support a loved one. He liked Amber because he thought she was strong. But when he saw that she also had weaknesses, he accepted her for who she was. After what she told him, he was still there for her in her time of need and showed her what love and support is all about. A very strong character.
All these themes are close to me, I'm going through similar things myself and so I was hooked. Besides, there were a lot of children in the audience and they were thrilled too. It was a fascinating adventure for them. I could write more about the cartoon, but that's enough.
