Hans Zimmer is one of the most popular composers of our time and holds a special place among my favorite musicians. He wrote the music for The Lion King, a cartoon that defined my childhood, and his melodies from films such as Pirates of the Caribbean, Madagascar, Sherlock Holmes, Rush, Kung Fu Panda, Inception, and others have been on my playlist for a long time. Last year, I found out that Hans was going on a world tour, and I was excited to go to the show. By the end of last year, I had forgotten all about it... until I found out that the concert had been recorded and would be shown at one or two screenings at the cinema! After getting my precious ticket, I went to a magnificent musical show.
The concert featured musical compositions from both large-scale blockbusters such as Gladiator, Inception, Interstellar, and lesser-known films such as True Love, Crimson Tide, The Thin Red Line. There were individual melodies and long medleys consisting of several musical numbers. The visual presentation of the compositions was noteworthy: the opening number consisted of melodies from the films Driving Miss Daisy, Sherlock Holmes, and Madagascar, with new musicians gradually joining in; an incredibly sensual performance of Chevaliers de Sangreal; the mesmerizing vocal and instrumental composition Circle of Life/King of Pride Rock; a fiery medley of Pirates of the Caribbean performed by Tina Guo on electric cello; and a tense mix of The Dark Knight performed by guitarist Johnny Marra. Zimmer himself is also worth mentioning, as he played the piano, banjo, electric guitar, and other instruments that I didn't even know existed... When you think about it, this is what makes Hans' music so special: the blending of classical and contemporary music, the use of a wide variety of instruments, the creation of compositions that feature a symphony orchestra, electric guitar, and choir—and it all sounds incredibly cohesive, harmonious, and unified. That's why I love Zimmer's music.
I am incredibly happy that I finally managed to attend this event, that I got to hear my favorite melodies from my favorite films and cartoons, as well as discover melodies from films I didn't know before, or appreciate melodies from films I hadn't really paid much attention to before. I recommend it to all fans of Hans Zimmer's work, movie lovers, and connoisseurs of musical accompaniment in contemporary cinema.
