One of the most famous works of the master of spaghetti horor Dario Argento - one of the best representatives of the purely Italian genre 'Giallo' - a bloody Italian detective thriller with a mystical atmosphere, bloody murders and a maniac without a face in a raincoat and black gloves. We can say that the founder of this genre was the famous Italian director Mario Bava, but it was from Dario Argento that this genre acquired almost demonic features, turning into a kind of 'opera of violence'. But you shouldn't confuse Giallo with Hollywood thrillers - in Italian choirs, it is not the plot that is important (although it is somewhat confused), not the believability and realistic acting, but the emphasized mannerism, theatricality and style of what is happening, as well as the indispensable artization of death. 'Blood Red' is actually the standard of Giallo: spectacular camera work, impeccable play with light, color and details, an interesting and captivating plot with an unpredictable ending. The choice of David Hemmings, who played the main role in Antonioni's 'Magnification', looks very appropriate, but the constant presence in many films of Dario Argento's wife Daria Nicola. playing pretentiously and in many respects falsely, the impression smears a little, although even her grotesque acting cannot spoil the impression of the picture. Alas, since the beginning of the 90s, Argento began to give out frankly weak, and often completely disastrous tapes, such as Stendhal Syndrome, Phantom of the Opera, The Gambler, Mother of Tears and Jallo.
