Eiffel 4K 2021 FRENCH

There is such a famous director - Christopher Nolan. I'm sure many people know him. Apparently, so does the screenwriter of the film. Every now and then the action takes us back in time. We start in 1889, three minutes later we find ourselves in 1883, from which throughout the movie we will jump to 1860. Sometimes the use of flashbacks goes to the point of absurdity. A scene in the present can be interspersed with a scene from the past up to three times, because of which even the most attentive viewer begins to lose track of the narrative.

The director is also 'good. In case you haven't seen it, the film's genre affiliation is divided between drama and biography, but the drama is in first place for a reason. Is the drama good? No. The characters' motives are often unclear, the meaning of some scenes you have to guess, because everything is played very ambiguously. Well, let's not forget about the minute plans of the people who are just watching. They don't give any strong phrases to think about, they just watch.

But the camerawork, screenplay and direction jump in quality when the film suddenly remembers that it is also a biopic. The monotonous suffering of the characters in the dialogues is replaced by Eiffel's energetic monologues. The camera catches the rhythm and starts circling to the beat of the main character. These moments are fun to watch, and this is what the entire film should have been like.

Unfortunately, all the good moments of the film only last about 20 minutes at most, giving you a good 'taste' of the classic serial drama. Replace Eiffel with a random character, and nothing for the plot changes except for the 20 minutes mentioned.

Pathetic really. The film had potential. First time seeing Romain Duris on the big screen, but judging by the biographical scenes he can act. And Emma McKay has already distinguished herself in Sex Education. If this were a biopic with a touch of drama, maybe something sensible would have come out. What we're presented with is a drama with a touch of biopic that makes us sleepy...
