After the super-successful first part, it was decided to make "Beverly Hills Policeman" into a TV series. But there was one problem. The producers found it very difficult to find an actor for the role of Axel Foley, as Eddie Murphy flatly refused to play in the series. Then, according to all the laws should have been followed by a sequel, to which the main star of the movie Eddie Murphy had no objections. The former pair of producers Jerry Bruckheimer and Don Simpson took over.
Leading role played by a superstar at that time, Eddie Murphy, because of which the continuation agreed to remove, and all the other actors from the first part. Only the post of director was vacant for some time, until Jerry Bruckheimer did not invite Tony Scott, who was just finishing work on their joint picture of "Top Gun.
The task in front of Tony was very, very difficult. He had to make the film different, but at the same time as successful as the first part of the adventures of the Detroit policeman in Beverly Hills. And contrary to the fact that a sequel is usually much harder to make, the director did his best and fully embodied his idea of making an action film with comedy in the center of the plot.
A huge part in the success was played by Eddie Murphy, who not only helped develop the plot, but also, by inventing and improvising in most scenes, filled them with a tremendous amount of humor. Director Tony Scott admitted that many scenes in the previously written script were reworked, as Eddie had a tremendous amount of ideas on how to make this or that take better and funnier.
In short, it was a great sequel in the style of the first part. The humor got more. The character of Eddie also deftly gets out of any situation by improvising on the fly. The soundtrack may not be as brilliant as in the first part, but it is also on par.
