Giant 4K 1956

An excellent 200 minute epic that touches on so many different themes, an unusual, original story.

When you start watching, everything seems abundantly obvious. Bick Benedict, heir to the richest land in Texas, whose name is the pride of the state, a typical victim of the outdated mentality of his ancestors imposing the lifestyle of the next generation, his wife Leslie a woman from another world, trying to change this to breathe life and freedom into the mores of the new family.

Jett Rink (James Dean) is a good-natured but poor kid whose ancestors left him nothing, but he tries to change this state of affairs.

Everything seems quite ordinary, but in the end everything changes in a completely unexpected way.

What I like about this movie is that there is no good or bad here, in the typical sense.

The brilliant role of the great James Dean, he couldn't just become a great actor, he became one with only three films. It is absolutely unique style of acting, a precisely created, deep image, brilliant performance, I could not have imagined him in a negative role, but he broke all the stereotypes, it's a pity he did not get a posthumous Oscar for this role, and was only nominated.

The moment when he was walking around his land which he inherited, measuring things, kicking sand, it is a masterpiece which evokes sympathy and sympathy at the same time, and at the end he saw his character turn into, setting revenge and riches as his aim in life.

This movie teaches you that you cannot plan your own, much less your children's lives. Just as you should not make revenge the goal of your life, or your desire to prove something to someone.

Of course the movie is not without its flaws, and the terribly long running time may tire you out, but on the contrary, it was not enough for me, the first viewing only happens once.

It was on the AFI top 100 list in 1998 and won the Oscar for best director, and was nominated in 10 categories.
