In this movie, I don’t see anyone but Robin Williams. Not Pierce Brosnan (who was still so young and had never played James Bond), not Sally Field, and not the wonderful young actors (though the youngest one is the most delightful).
I could watch Williams in this movie forever. You can’t help but fall in love with him from the very first scenes, where he sings Figaro’s aria while voicing a cartoon parrot. Just for that one gesture when he pulls up his tights. For the face mask of whipped cream dripping into his teacup. For the TV remote he throws into the fish tank. For the way he gets drunk at the restaurant and forgets yet again to change clothes before sitting down at a table with his boss. For the way he loves his children. For the fact that he’ll do anything for them.
Mrs. Doubtfire truly makes life better. Every time I watch this movie, no matter how many times I’ve seen it, I feel it. The movie is wonderful.
