As I said before, Doctor Who is not just a cultural phenomenon. It's a whole universe, with its own history, special laws, many worlds and characters. And non-canonical versions.
The movie 'Doctor Who and the Daleks' is one of them. At first glance, everything is very similar. There's the Doctor, there's his granddaughter (incidentally, at the time the film was made, audiences had only seen one First Doctor played by William Hartnell) and companions, there's the TARDIS (bigger inside than outside and looking like a phone booth). And there are the Daleks. Those same evil aliens, the bizarre-looking ones that have been touted as the most dangerous monsters in the universe. Everything seems to be there... but something important is missing. There is no specific charm that set 'Doctor Who' apart from the host of other similar stories. Even the main theme is distorted so much that it is unrecognizable. And the Daleks killing enemies... steam!
All in all, the action is, alas, at times reminiscent of farce or a hundred other sci-fi horror{action films about alien invasion being filmed at the time. Perhaps the only reason why it's worth watching is the actor playing Tom the policeman, one of the Doctor's companions, who later played Wilf in season four.
