I was shocked by this movie in my time. When I was a kid, I was afraid of dolls after watching this movie.
Chucky the Doll, a battery-operated maniac transplanted into a doll through voodoo magic, first kills an annoying babysitter who suspected something about him, then his former friend with whom he went on 'affairs' and who betrayed him, and then he decides that he needs the boy's body as a new vessel for new life in this world. His mother and the homicide detective who killed Chucky while he was still human prevent him from doing so. Chucky, as a clever and sophisticated maniac, acts in a more than original way - frying people, biting them, killing them with his own fears. Everything goes into it - after all, he's a regular puppet with the soul of a killer.
The film has frighteningly realistic animation and an excellent script. The picture is made on the level of the immortal 'Evil Dead' but still with a bigger budget. Oh, and for those who have seen 'The Bride of Chucky' don't think - the first film is not as funny. Chucky doesn't make jokes here and the black humor is almost non-existent.
