I'm a big fan of quality movie parodies. It's always nice to see a good mockumentary about the basic staples of modern (or not-so-modern) films. When you get into it, you get a special thrill. 'Soldiers of Failure' (the name our translators gave to Ben Stiller's Tropic Thunder) gave me great pleasure in this respect. After the so-called viral clip voiced by Goblin, I decided that I would definitely watch this movie and I didn't regret it. Stiller's previous works are not impressive, but here he tried his best.
The plot. Filming of a new super boxbuster about the war in Vietnam is in full swing. Starring bevik hero Tug Speedman (Stiller), comedian Jeff Portnoy (Jack Black) and multi-Oscar winner Kirk Lazarus, who stands out for his ability to fully get into his role (Robert Downey, Jr.). Things are not going well - the director can not find common language with the actors, the money is wasted. And then a radical suggestion arises: the actors are dropped off in a real jungle, put hidden cameras everywhere and see what happens. As you can imagine, nothing good came out of this...
Impressions. What did you end up with? A very cool parody. Ridiculous? Yes. But very funny. Quotes from 'Soldier of Failure' just stick in my memory. Here are some of them:
- I'll be in character until the extras are ready for the DVD!
- Are we men or what?
- Saving the world again. Me again.
- This time it's going to be different: Heat Wave VI: global cooling!
- Bless me, Father, for I am a varmint!
- I don't read the script, the script reads me!
- I'm a dude playing a dude disguised as another dude!
Extras.
Four clips precede the film, three of which are movie trailers featuring Tag Speedman, Jeff Portnoy and Kirk Lazarus. 'Heat VI' and 'Satan's Alley' just won me over.
Tom Cruise appeared in a totally unexpected way. The dude is unrealistically rocking!
The film also boasts a decent soundtrack.
