It's been a long time since I expected a screen adaptation to be anything like the reality I had imagined.
Michael Yorke is quite appropriate as d'Artagnan, not cutting to the eye. The overall production is quite athletic and martial, apparently, the early 1970s and the penetration of Oriental fighting films had their effect: they fight, jump and fly for a good half of the film.
There are a few moments which could bring a smile, in general the style is that of a comedy action film - in this respect there is no fault of the book - the heroes are self-forgetful in their combat glory and do not stray into the pocket for an insulting word.
There is no love line at all, women are clearly on the side so that there is a motive for mortal combat.
All in all, not bad. The film has a sequel, Milady's Revenge, but here it only comes to a ball with pendants. Frankly, I won't be watching the second part anytime soon. Not because I didn't like the first one - a normal comedy with good acting - it's just that the genre is such that it's hard to watch a lot of it.
