I kept trying to remember what movie based on the game, if not a success, then at least not a failure? I couldn't, except for Resident Evil. Game franchises are doomed to fail and have a boring plot.
All hope was for a new Hitman. You'd think you could make yourself an intriguing stealth action movie with thriller overtones. With an unemotional protagonist. There was hope... It faded as soon as I left the theater.
The idea of the film was incredibly boring and banal. The main character is either the son of Chuck Norris or a bastard from the film 'Brat-2' ten years later. For all the gunfights in the movie, including its beginning, middle and end, are so poorly staged and not realistic, that you almost fall asleep in your chair when the action scenes seem to happen. Our hero is a real Rambo, killing everyone and everything even with a shot to the stomach, and 10 people standing around him can't even get close enough to hit him. Well, 20-25 years ago it was fun, but in 2015...
From the boring staging of shootings and fights, let's move on to the plot. Come on, stealth, fire away! Sneak in unnoticed, go around without being seen, nerves on edge... No, you can't see all that here either. There's only one scene in the middle of the movie where the director remembers 'I think that was a pro-steals game' and tries to reflect it on the screen. But already after 10 minutes the characters once again prefer to go dumbfounded. It's faster and less complicated. I like that in games too, actually.
The idea of the movie is very linear and does not offer any sharp plot twists and intrigue.
Well, maybe the acting of the main characters is impressive? Well... I wish I could say that the main character played Agent 47 (Hitman) perfectly, without showing any emotion with a stony look on his face. By the way, for the first 20 minutes the actor even manages it. But then our Hitman's heart begins to melt, and at the end there is almost snot all over the screen. I exaggerate, but there is nothing left of the man without emotions, feelings and regrets. Hitman's antagonist is even more boring than the protagonist. He is a character with an inflated ego, who does not stand out and is not memorable in the movie. Surprisingly, but the best way to cope with the role is the main character. It was this actress who managed to play her role as close to the idea as possible, from a frightened girl in the beginning to a copy of Hitman in terms of emotionality at the end.
They should have taken Vladi from Casta for the lead role. His resemblance to Hitman's character and the actor playing the lead role is incredible.
All in all, Hitman ended up being a very mediocre action movie. There is no way to call this movie a successful adaptation of the game. The basic ideas of Hitman from the game world are not transferred to the screen. And it is also far from being a high quality action film.
