In the bowels of filmmaking, titanic pictures are emerging, but not every project can become a success. No matter how much the film was advertised as a project from Sam Raimi himself (only as a producer), from the makers of Quiet Place...2 themselves (only auxiliary screenwriters) it took nothing good from these films.
'65' with Adam Driver was one of those pictures, with an interesting concept but poor realization.
The plot is very weak, it feels like it was written in a couple of days (there were already so many stories about the girl and the father that you could have learned), very boring, very monotonous and formulaic, that's how you can describe the plot of the movie.
The actors...the movie could have been a great performance by Adam Driver and Arianna Greenblatt, but the acting...you get the feeling that even the actors themselves didn't care about the movie. The characters they played were supposed to sort of resemble the relationship between Logan and X-23, Joel and Ellie, where after a lot of difficulties they become closer to each other than ever, which I didn't see in movie 65, because all the emotions are wooden and you just can't believe that Driver even cares about the girl.
Graphics, the movie has a pretty small budget for such projects, so the makers apparently decided to shoot half of the movie at night so as not to scorch the bad graphics, which unfortunately were very well seen even in the deep night, but you can praise the effort and then criticize for the meager depiction of the various flora and fauna of the Cretaceous Period.
The direction leaves much to be desired, the pace of the narration makes the viewer only fall asleep, there are no interesting directorial moves, the camerawork is standard, like in the TV series. The film rather resembles a rough draft which should have been elaborated.
The relationship between the main character and the girl, described earlier, deserves special attention. However, here, instead of a dramatic and well-written story, a student work-parody of 'Logan' and 'The Last of Us' was shown. Sometimes there was a question, why did Adam Driver agree to star in this? The actor is good, knows how to play, but apparently the money is decisive.
The film, though not hopeless, but can not be considered a success. The idea behind '65' is quite interesting, but its realization spoils the whole film. The acting is unconvincing and the characters don't seem alive. The film can be seen, but you should be prepared for the fact that it will not be called a masterpiece.
