The movie has a weird vibe to it.
The opening scene of the movie is pretty cool. It was nice to see something relatively fresh. A cheat that is a joy to watch.
Ghostface is also cool in this movie. He's really scary, plus that shabby mask of his adds some extra charisma and style to him, or something. True all this coolness disappears in the finale along with the dropped mask, but more on that later.
What's wrong with the main characters? THEY'RE ANNOYING! I couldn't figure out what was confusing me about this movie, and I realized that I didn't empathize with the characters at all. I mean, logically I should empathize with them, but I can't. THEY'RE ANNOYING! Almost all of them. They're kind of toxic. Just when I start to empathize with them a little bit, suddenly one of them opens their mouth and that's it. Cold. And they look a lot like each other.
Separately, the invulnerability of some characters pisses me off. Dewey used to have this chip, who was gutted in every movie and survived, but now almost every character has this superpower. One of them is a mutant from the X-Men universe. Those who watched it will understand.
A few words about the ending too. In the first hour of watching I already guessed who would be snapping behind the tattered mask. Just intuition. But the ending was comical (in a bad way). As soon as the killer dropped the mask, he instantly became stupid. He was cool and scary, but he became dumb. Motivations, like a Scooby Doo villain.
You listen to this and you get a smile on your face. It's not convincing.
I ended up having very mixed feelings about it. Love the franchise and will still re-watch in the future, but would like something more.
