A small opinion about this old movie. A fine example of a patriotic action movie. However, it is not just an entertaining action movie, but quite a serious movie. The situation of hostage-taking is modeled very carefully and meticulously, in fact, the whole first hour of two is devoted to the details of the capture. That is not a fun adventure in the spirit of 'The Rock', and the movie may even seem boring for those who are not very fond of the theme of special forces, intelligence and politics. But those who are interested in all this will definitely enjoy the movie. In the center of the plot is a secret special unit Delta, so elite that there is a set of already from the special forces, that is, the special forces are students by their standards. This unit performs the most difficult combat tasks of the U.S. government, in this case rescues hostages and destroys the army of terrorists. There are no special exaggerations here, as I think such professionals are really capable of it. The battle scenes are staged perfectly by the standards of the time, and even today look pretty decent. There are of course a few funny moments with Chuck, where the authors overdid it with coolness, but in general we can say the picture is quite realistic.
As for the theme in general, it is quite provocative, but today it is especially relevant, when the world is again divided into those who are in favor of the U.S. and those who are against it (at least in words). Slogans about world Zionism led by the State Department are heard again, and not only from radical Islamists. This is not just a clash of civilizations, it is a clash of worldviews: what is the will of the higher powers? That we live in harsh medieval conditions under the rule of cruel conservatives or that we enjoy the fullness and beauty of this world in all its diversity? I am personally for the second option, and therefore I completely agree with the authors of this movie that the US secret agents are real heroes who fight for the happiness of all people in the world, for the freedom and prosperity of each of us in the end.
The movie has a wonderful soundtrack, although too cheerful, in my opinion, in relation to what is happening on the screen. But in general the compositions are very high quality and absolutely in the spirit of the 80s.
